Tales of iconic club from HookyDianne BourneNEW Order bassist Peter Hook is sharpening his pencil to write a book about legendary Manchester nightclub The Hacienda. And you might be able to guess the tone of the book from its provisional title - How Not To Run A Club. Peter tells me: "I realised I'd bored my friends for years with tales from The Hacienda, so now I thought I'd bore the general public with it."But once I started to get into the writing I realised what a huge endeavour it was, and that I was going to have to work on it properly to do it justice." New Order ended up part-owning the club in the Eighties with their record label Factory, but of course it all ended in tears with the eventual demise of the venue - which has since been demolished for luxury flats.Hooky says: "To us it's a tale of woe, but The Hacienda did change the world of clubbing. "Even though it took me to the edge and it took Factory Records to the edge." To this day Bernard Sumner [New Order's frontman] won't talk about The Hacienda because it's so depressing. He's not spoken to publishers yet, but I'm sure there'll be a fair deal of interest in snapping up the rights to the book. Particularly as Hooky says there will be a fair few eye-popping anecdotes of his own in his tome. He says: "The stories are legion and legendary." /quote]

Barney (GermanOrder)
