Pumped-up performance for old raversNew Order, Wembley ArenaIt said New Order on the ticket, but the first part of the evening was all about the band that came before them. "Tonight, for you, we are Joy Division," announced singer Bernard Sumner as he launched into half a dozen post-punk classics. People were soon dancing to Love Will Tear Us Apart and, overall, Sumner did his former group's songs justice. But there was still something incongruous about the funereal Atmosphere being performed in the recently refurbished Wembley Arena. The Manchester band are involved in Control, the biopic about Joy Division singer Ian Curtis who killed himself in 1980. So it made sense for New Order to devote a third of their Wembley set to music that will be integral to next year's film, especially as they didn't have a new album to promote. There was more of a party vibe when the New Order songs kicked in, with terrace-style chants from the thirtysomething fans. And Sumner was equally ebullient during Bizarre Love Triangle, although he danced like a man flailing around on a running machine. That image doesn't quite fit with my memories of their brilliant, elegiac Eighties pop, and this performance was sometimes pumped-up when it should have been poignant. But the encore of Love Vigilantes sounded wonderful and the dance version of True Faith was a big finale for all the old ravers. By André Paine, Evening Standard
toll,hätte ich vorher nicht gedacht das Wembley so der Knaller wird.naja schön für die die dabei waren, das passt schon...
Wenn Du dabei gewesen wärst hätte das einiges einfacher gemacht. So musste man immer die Frage beantworten: Where is Matteies? Das ist jetzt quasi schon ein geflügeltes Wort bei den Engländern.
Ja Norbert ist halt einfacher auszusprechen.ist ein schwacher Trost, aber immerhin...
